“We have some persons of interest” the words of Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman Tuesday afternoon when asked about a double murder that has his department conducting one of the most exhaustive investigations in recent memory.
On February 9th, 38 year old Chad Lee Kennedy and Mark Jefferson Furey, age 57 were found shot to death inside a mobile home off Mt. Wesley Church Road. Both men were living at the location at the time of the murders. Both were shot multiple times and found in different rooms of the home.
A number of neighbors in the area told investigators they heard knocks on their doors around 1am the day the bodies were found. The time of the murders is not certain but according to Chief Deputy Todd Jones, “It’s possible that someone escaped the home and ran for help, we’re considering that possibility.”
Another part of the investigation centers around the death of another man on January 31st at the same location. John Allen Kennedy, age 50 was found dead at the residence. Chad Lee Kennedy and John Allen Kennedy are brothers. The cause of death has not been determined but there was no evidence of foul play or trauma to the body. So far, the Sheriff’s Office has yet to get any information from the State Medical Examiners Office.
Sheriff Bowman says his investigators found a video camera inside the residence but says he “can’t comment on the video yet.” Bowman said Tuesday that numerous items seized at the crime scene have been forwarded to the S.B.I. Crime Lab but nothing has been revealed as of yet.
Bowman continues to urge the public to provide any information they might have regarding the case. You can reach the Sheriff’s Office at 828-632-1111 or CRIMESTOPPERS of Alexander County at 828-632-8555.
