Man Killed In Lincoln County Head-On Collision

Iron Station- On Wednesday, July 8th, at approximately 11:15 a.m., The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on NC 27 near Long Circle, in Lincoln County. A 2001 Ford Expedition was traveling West on NC 27, crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2016 Volvo that was traveling East on NC 27. After the collision, the Ford Expedition became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Ford, Kevin Lee Long, 52, of Iron Station, was airlifted to CMC Main -Charlotte, with serious injuries.

The driver of the Volvo, Tracy Dale Mosteller, 59, of Vale, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.

The initial investigation suspects impairment may have contributed to the collision. The collision is still under investigation.

Charges are expected once the investigation is concluded.

While Troopers conducted the on-scene investigation, NC 27 was closed for several hours
