Woman Killed In Caldwell County Accident

Lenoir – On Friday, July 7th, at approximately 3:55 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Caldwell County on Abington Road near Collettsville Road. A 2005 Lincoln Town Car was traveling south on Abington Road, drove off the right side of the highway, and struck part of the bridge railing. 
                                                    
The driver of the Town Car, James Cecil Shew, 84, of Lenoir, was transported by medical helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center, in serious condition.  The front seat passenger, Virginia Stines Shew, 82, of Lenoir, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. 
 
During the on-scene investigation, Abington Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours. 

Charges are pending upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office.
