Wilkes County Man Killed In Monday Accident

A North Wilkesboro man was killed in an accident on Monday in Wilkes County.

According to a release from the North Carolina Highway Patrol:

“On Monday, Feb. 14, at approximately 6:05 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on N.C. 268 at Edwards Lakeview Drive. A 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada was towing a trailer while traveling south on Edwards Lakeview Drive. The driver of the Oldsmobile attempted to turn left onto N.C. 268 into the path of a westbound 2013 Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle. The motorcycle overturned, and the driver collided with the trailer.”

“The driver of the motorcycle, Matthew William Curry, 39, of North Wilkesboro, was critically injured and transported from the scene by EMS. He succumbed to his injuries at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin”

The driver of the Oldsmobile, Reginald Shumate, 56, of North Wilkesboro, was not injured. Shumate was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. The investigation remains active.
