Watauga 41 Alexander Central 34
Boone: Watauga held off a furious rally to beat Alexander Central Friday night 41-37.
The Pioneers led 41-14 when QB Maddox Greene ran in from 11 yards with 7:24 seconds remaining in the third quarter. From that point forward, Alexander Central outscored undefeated Watauga 20-0.
Cougar QB Tanner Moore started the comeback when he ran in from 24 yards on the first play of the fourth quarter making the score 41-20 after the point-after-touchdown was blocked.
Braydon Rowe found the end zone from 4 yards with 2:17 remaining to pull the Cougars a little closer at 41-27.
QB Moore hit Jaheim Redmond from 7 yards with 20 seconds remaining to end the scoring after AC failed to recover the onsides kick.
Watauga was led by Everett Gryder who rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown. Maddox Greene gained 113 yards and a score. He went 6-11 passing for 109 yards and three touchdowns.
Alexander Central got 92 yards rushing from Tanner Moore on 16 carries and a pair of scores. Moore was 8-20 for 145 yards passing with a pair of touchdown tosses and an interception.
Watauga is 7-0 on the season while Alexander Central slides to 3-4.
