The pilot and passenger who died in a Sunday plane crash on Lake Hickory have been identified.
This morning, the NC Highway Patrol said the pilot was Jeffrey Jay Cooley, 63, of Granite Falls. The passenger was 49-year old Brian Frank Miller of Hickory.
The aircraft had departed from the Hickory Regional Airport. The single-engine Super Petrel Amphibious Plane hit powerlines and crashed into the lake.
Around 18,000 customers were without power in Alexander, Caldwell and Catawba counties shortly after the crash, according to Duke Energy.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating what led to the crash.
