Unemployment increased in North Carolina During the month of May.
The NC Department of Commerce released the latest job figures on Wednesday. Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 89 of North Carolina’s counties in May, decreased in six, and remained unchanged in five. Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 7.3 percent while Chatham and Orange Counties each had the lowest at 2.9 percent. All fifteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases.
Statewide joblessness rose from 3.4 percent in April to 3.6 percent in May
Alexander County 3.2 percent up from 2.9 in April
Iredell County 3.2 percent up from 2.9 percent in April
Catawba County 3.4 percent up from 3.2 percent in April
Caldwell County 3.6 percent up from 3.3 percent in April
Wilkes County 3.8 percent up from 3.5 percent in April
