On Tuesday, November 29, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team stopped a Toyota 4-Runner traveling south on Interstate 77 at mile marker 55 for violating a traffic law.
During the course of the traffic stop, Deputies searched the vehicle. A large suitcase and a large bag located in the trunk contained over 40 pounds of high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value at $378,876.00.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Randy Diaz Fonseca, 34 Years Old. The passenger was identified as Luis Miguel Vazquez, 25 Years Old. Both told deputies that they were traveling from Michigan to Florida. Fonseca and Vazquez were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where they were charged with Felony Trafficking by Marijuana Possession, Felony Trafficking by Marijuana Transport, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Bond was set at $100,000 eachBoth suspects are being held on a Federal detainer due to their immigration status.
