A yet to be disclosed number of Caldwell County Deputies are on paid administrative leave after a Friday night fatal shooting.
Deputies responded to a call off Terrapin Ridge Lane in Granite Falls and found a man who was later identified as 56-year-old Troy Lee Carter armed with a gun and knife holding two females hostage. According to a release, a Deputy or Deputies fatally shot Carter after he refused to comply with demands.
A man said to be Carter’s brother-in-law, 48-year-old Timothy Lewis Davis was who lived at the residence, had been shot and stabbed Davis prior to law enforcement’s arrival. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carter had active arrest warrants at the time of his death for charges including criminal trespassing and second-degree arson.
Caldwell Deputies involved in the incident have not been named. They are on leave while the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation takes charge of the case.
