Two Killed In Hickory Crash

October 30, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Two men died in a single-vehicle traffic crash early Sunday morning in Hickory. The deceased are 27-year-old James Sigmon and 26-year-old Jared Turpin, both from Hickory.

The accident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday as a Dodge Challenger driven by Mr. Sigmon was traveling near the 600 block on 14th Street S.W. The Dodge ran off the road, collided with a tree, and then caught fire. The Hickory Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames.

Sigmon was pronounced dead at the scene. Turpin, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Hickory Police are investigating to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators say excessive speed was a factor. Anyone with information regarding the accident should contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
