August 24, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

Two fatal accidents over the weekend in Wilkes County

A man was killed on Sunday.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded around 3:45 p.m. on NC 18 near Longbottom Road. Troopers say a motorcycle was traveling north, drove left of center in a sharp curve, and collided with a southbound 2016 Toyota Rav4. The driver of the motorcycle, James John Anderton III, 52, of Boonville, died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

A crash on N.C. 268 left a Ronda man dead and his girlfriend seriously injured on Saturday morning.

The Highway Patrol says David Brian Haynes, 45, of Ronda, died at the scene of the accident. Haynes’ girlfriend, Amanda Jean Phillips 37, was seriously injured and taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

The accident occurred at 11:49 a.m., Aug. 21, on N.C. 268 near East Wilkes High School, when the westbound 2008 Ford Escape driven by Haynes crossed the center line, left the highway and struck a tree. The vehicle caught on fire.
