Noah Daniel Garrett – Virgil Jackson Garrett
Earlier this month, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a fraud report from a local business involving a high-value piece of equipment. According to the report, on June 6, Noah and Virgil Garrett of Garrett & Son’s Construction rented an excavator valued at over $100,000. Despite the agreed-upon return date, the men failed to return the excavator, and all attempts to contact them were unsuccessful.
During the investigation, Detectives discovered the excavator was equipped with a G.P.S. tracker, which showed that the machine was in northern Iredell County. Detectives responded and successfully recovered the excavator. Further investigation revealed that the person in possession of the machine had purchased it from the Garretts through Facebook Marketplace for $38,000 in cash.
Detectives also learned that the Garretts had rented additional equipment from the same rental company with the intention of defrauding other victims in a similar manner. So far, four other pieces of machinery have been recovered by surrounding law enforcement agencies. Those cases remain under investigation.
Noah Garrett was arrested on September 9 and Virgil Garrett was taken into custody on September 11, both by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. Noah Garrett was given a $70,000 secured bond. Virgil Garrett was denied bond as the result of pending charges in Catawba County. Neither are currently listed as inmates in Catawba County. Noah Garrett will appear in Iredell County District Court on October 1 with District Court dates in Newton on October 1 & 2, plus a Catawba County Superior Court appearance on November 7. Virgil Garrett is due in an Iredell County courtroom on October 2 with a Catawba County court date on October 23.
