BEECH MOUNTAIN — The Town of Beech Mountain has announced Stage 1 Water Restrictions.
Currently, Beech Mountain must rely on the Buckeye Lake Reservoir for its water supply. Because Buckeye Creek flows into the lake, the town is required to release the same flow of water from the dam as comes in from the creek, to prevent any negative impact on the environment according to a release from the town.
Stage 1 restrictions are voluntary. All water users are asked to reduce their normal water use by five percent. Methods to achieve this include preventing water waste, washing only full loads of dishes and laundry, limiting watering of landscaping to one inch per week, and repairing any water leaks.
“Stage 1 is triggered when the water stops flowing over the Buckeye Lake Dam,” said Town Manager Bob Pudney. “We hope to avoid moving into Stage 2 or higher, where mandatory water restrictions are necessary. If everyone makes a few small changes, we can prevent an inconvenience from becoming a crisis.”
