The regular registration deadline is Friday October 9. We encourage voters to check to make sure they are registered to vote and that their information is up-to-date. Voters can check their voter registration status by using the NC Voter Search tool. Here are 2 ways to register to vote or update your voter registration information before the General Election.
Complete a Registration By Mail
North Carolina residents may use the North Carolina Voter Registration Application to register to vote or to update their name, address or party affiliation.
To register to vote or update your current voter registration:
1. Complete a North Carolina Voter Registration Application. Make sure to complete all required fields.
2. Print the application.
3. Sign the application (ink to paper). If you are a new registrant, you must submit the original application by mail or in-person. If you are an existing registrant in the county and are using the form to update your information, you may also fax or email the signed form.
4. Mail the form to your county board of elections.
Complete your registration Online through the DMV
If you are a N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles customer with a NC driver’s license or DMV-issued ID, you may register to vote or change parts of your registration with the online voter registration service.
Existing DMV customers may register to vote, update their voter registration address or party affiliation. They may not change their name.
This service does not require the user to complete a DMV transaction (such as duplicate or license renewal) at the same time.
There is no fee for voter registration services. Once the online application is complete, it is sent to the State Board of Elections, which handles voter registrations.
