The Town of Taylorsville has released the following statement

On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the Taylorsville Police Department was notified of a misdemeanor charge of failure to report a traffic accident issued against Officer Sgt. Carson Fleming, relating to an on-duty incident on June 14th, 2026.
The department is fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary information indicates that the officer did initiate an internal incident report regarding the minor traffic matter and attempted to report the accident to NC State Highway Patrol. The current charge appears to stem from a procedural misunderstanding regarding the timing or specific reporting requirements under the law, rather than any attempt to bypass proper channels.
Officer Fleming has been entirely cooperative with the investigating agency throughout this process.
“We hold our officers to high standards, but we also support them through due process when technical misunderstandings arise,” said Mike Millsaps, Taylorsville Police Chief. “Officer Fleming took steps to report this minor incident, and we are confident that a clear review of the timeline and facts will resolve this matter quickly.
Because this involves an ongoing legal review of a personnel matter, the department will limit further comment until the issue is formally resolved.”
End of Statement
Taylorsville Town Manager Nathan Hester said Friday afternoon that Officer Fleming is on Administrative Leave at this time.
