A middle school teacher from Taylorsville, spun his way to a big win on Wheel of Fortune!
Cory Earp, who teaches at Newton-Conover Middle School, made his debut on Friday’s show as part of a week celebrating teachers. He was able to win the main round to advance to the bonus round, choosing the “What Are You Wearing” category for the final spin.
Earp chose the letters B, F, K, and A for Vanna White to fill in the blanks on the board. His first guess: “fancy blazer”. He was right. Host Ryan Seacrest noted Earp got it fast, and slowly opened the prize card to reveal that Earp won $100,000.
Earp, an Alexander Central High School graduate, was beside himself as his loved ones joined him to celebrate. And when asked by Seacrest about what the win meant for him, Earp said it hadn’t yet sunk in.
“I’ve watched [Wheel] since I was young and I probably won’t believe it until it comes on, honestly,” he said. “I’m speechless.”
Maggie Sajak, daughter of long-time host Pat Sajak, spoke with Earp after the win, noting in her own post on Instagram that Earp was the season’s first $100,000 winner. He said he was prepared to play the game by studying up.
“I just hit the books, I studied like I ask the kids to study. I hope they actually study,” he said.
