Statesville Man Killed In Crash On Old Mountain Road

August 11, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

STATESVILLE – On Thursday, August 10, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on Old Mountain Road near Marie Duke Road. A 1996 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on Old Mountain Road, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with a southbound 2014 Ford Explorer, causing the Silverado to catch on fire.

The driver of the Silverado, Jeffrey Turman Walker, 57, of Statesville, was entrapped in the truck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Explorer, Jawayne Torrence Jr., 49, of Mooresville, received minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. A passenger was transported by EMS to Iredell Memorial Hospital, with minor injuries.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be a contributing factor. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
