Statesville Man Charged With Arson

A Statesville man has been arrested after investigators say a home was deliberately set on fire following an altercation involving family members and a tenant.

53-year-old Kenneth Wayne Mills of Lewis Ferry Road is charged with felony second-degree arson.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell says deputies responded to the Lewis Ferry Road residence on August 19th to assist the Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office with a suspected arson investigation.
Authorities say an altercation had taken place at the home earlier in the day. When deputies arrived, Mills was still at the scene and was identified as a possible suspect.

Sheriff’s detectives and fire investigators examined the scene and determined the home had been intentionally set on fire. Campbell says evidence collected at the scene, along with witness interviews and statements made during the investigation, gave detectives probable cause to charge Mills.

The suspect remains in the Iredell County Detention Center with bond listed at $150,000.
