Statesville Man Arrested After Sunday Chase

March 20, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

On Sunday, March 19, 2023, a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office about a 2013 Ford Edge having been stolen.

Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team responded to the area to locate the vehicle.

Deputy M. Sharpe observed the stolen vehicle traveling north on Triplett Road. Deputy Sharpe got behind the vehicle, which made an immediate left turn onto JD Lane. Deputy Sharpe attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. After a brief chase the suspect stopped on Hickory Highway.

The driver of the vehicle, Rico Maurice Polk, 30 Years Old, of Statesville, was arrested on scene and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle, Felony Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Two Counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, Misdemeanor Driving While License Revoked, Misdemeanor Reckless Driving to Endanger, Misdemeanor Speeding, Driving Left of the Center, and Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign.

Polk appeared before Magistrate T. Thompson, who issued a 175,000.00 dollar secured bond on those charges.

A criminal records database search showed Polk had two outstanding warrants for his arrest for Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and two outstanding Orders for Arrest for Felony Probation Violation. These warrants were served on Polk, making his total bond 255,000.00 dollars secured.
