Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to assist Gaston County Probation and Patrol officers at approximately 10:45 a.m. Tuesday (February 15) in northern Lincoln County. When they went to the mobile home on Woodland Hills Trail, the suspect, identified as Patrick Shomo, started to run from the back door when he saw the officers. Police say he stopped and went back inside the residence and held two women hostage.
The suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside the home while holding the women hostage. Lincoln and Gaston County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams brought the hostage situation to an end shortly after midnight. At that time, flash bang grenades were exploded and the SWAT team breached the door of the mobile home.
Shomo was taken into custody and the two females were freed from the mobile home. Shomo was wanted in Gaston County on trafficking charges. The names of the women held hostage were not available at the time of the news release. No one was injured in the incident.
Shomo was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under $675,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (February 16).
