Search On For Mother And Son In Caldwell County…Updated

April 25, 2022 By Richard C. Gilbert

A search for two missing and overdue hikers is underway in Caldwell County.

Caldwell Emergency Management is currently searching for a mother and her 8-year-old son in the Harper Creek Trail area of Collettsville & Mortimer.

April Tester and her son, Desmond, split from their family at the trailhead at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday and never met back with rest of the family. Mother and son are novice hikers and were not dressed for an overnight stay. The mother was wearing shorts, a pink tank top, and flip-flops. Her son was wearing black shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers.

Agencies involved in the search include the Emergency Services Special Operations Team, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, a K-9 from the Department of Corrections, and the Collettsville, Gamewell, Patterson, Little River, and North Catawba fire departments.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office reports the mother and child have been found and are safe !
