Word of the Day: Dopamine [doh-puh-meen] a chemical found in the brain that acts as a neurotransmitter and is an intermediate compound in the synthesis of noradrenaline. Dopamine is also synthesized in plants and most animals. In popular culture dopamine is often portrayed as the main chemical of pleasure, but the current opinion in pharmacology is that’ not the case. “Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative condition causing tremor and motor impairment, is caused by a loss of dopamine-secreting neurons.”
