Republic Services Issues Statement Addressing Recent Issues In Alexander County

October 13, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

Alexander County maintains a franchise agreement with Republic Services to ensure that trash and recycling collection services are available to residents throughout the county.

In response to recent concerns about missed collections and customer service delays, county leaders met with Republic Services representatives to address these issues and discuss improvements.
Following that meeting, Republic Services issued the following statement outlining its efforts to improve service and providing a new email address for residents to report concerns.

To Our Valued Alexander County Residents:

Republic Services of NC and Alexander County have enjoyed a strong partnership for many years, providing reliable waste and recycling collection services to county residents. While dependable service has long been our standard, we recognize that some customers have experienced service disruptions in recent months, including missed collections and delays in customer service response times.

These challenges have been driven primarily by industry-wide workforce shortages, driver turnover, and the time required to recruit and train new team members. While these factors have created operational challenges, they have not changed our commitment to providing the dependable, high-quality service Alexander County residents have come to expect.

In response, Republic Services has taken significant steps to strengthen local operations, including improving route coverage, enhancing customer service responsiveness, and increasing operational oversight. These efforts are already producing positive results, and service performance continues to improve.

To further strengthen communication, Republic Services has created a new email portal for residents: alexandercountysupport@republicservices.com. Our team is monitoring this inbox daily and pledges to address any residents’ concerns and service requests as quickly as possible.

We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding shown by county residents during this period. Republic Services remains committed to Alexander County and to providing the safe, reliable, and responsive service our community deserves.
