Police Charge Teen With Gun On Statesville High School Campus

On Friday, January 20, School Resource Officers of the Statesville Police Department working at Statesville High School were notified by an educator they had located a firearm in a backpack. Officers swiftly took possession of the backpack, and a subsequent search uncovered a loaded handgun and marijuana.

During the ensuing investigation, it was discovered the backpack belonged to a student. Justin Smith Davidson, 18, was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of Possession of Firearm on Educational Property, one count of Carrying Concealed Handgun, one count Possession of Schedule VI controlled substance, and one count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Davidson was taken to Iredell County Jail and held on a $20,000 secured bond.

This is an ongoing investigation.
