Pastor Jennings Passes

A well known pastor from Alexander County has died.

Gary W. Jennings passed away Sunday morning. Jennings had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The Tennessee native pastored the East Taylorsville Baptist Church for 30 years and in 2002 was named Chaplain of Alexander County. He with was a member of the Taylorsville Fire Department for 29 years and eventually retired as the Assistant Chief. Rev. Jennings was also on the board of directors at Taylorsville Savings Bank and was president of Alexander Funeral Service. Gary was named Alexander County Citizen of the Year in 1992.

Pastor Jennings will lie in state at East Taylorsville Baptist Church on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 AM- 6 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4:00 pm at East Taylorsville Baptist Church.

Jennings was 73.
