One Lane Of I-40 To Close Tuesday In Catawba County

July 19, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

HICKORY – N.C. Department of Transportation crews will temporarily close a lane of Interstate 40 East in Catawba County for emergency road work starting Tuesday morning.

One lane of the interstate will be closed near Exit 121 at 9 a.m. while crews thoroughly inspect damage to an outside beam of the Old Shelby Road bridge following a vehicle crash earlier this morning. A lane shift will also be set on the bridge to prevent traffic from moving over the affected beam.

Motorists should use caution while approaching the work zone and expect some delays due to the lane closure and traffic shift.
