On Tuesday, September 26, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on Macedonia Church Road near Money Road. A 2004 Dodge Ram was traveling east on Macedonia Church Road, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with a westbound 2006 Honda Accord.
The driver of the Ram, Joseph Brandon Wood, 48, of Ronda, NC, was transported by EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, with non-life-threatening injuries. He was not restrained by a seatbelt.
The driver of the Accord, Augusta Ann Hill, 29, of Thurmond, NC, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was not restrained by a seatbelt. Two juvenile passengers were transported to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and one with non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile with life-threatening injuries was not restrained by a seatbelt.
Macedonia Church Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation. The initial investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing circumstances in the collision. Wood was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, left of center, driving while license suspended, and other traffic violations.
