41-year old Steven Slate Shaw of Taylorsville was arrested Wednesday, January 12th by Deputies with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody at a location in Bethlehem after a report of a suspicious person.
Deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious person on Woodring Lane in the Bethlehem Community. Officers learned the caller had stopped the suspicious person near some storage units. Officers located a Chevrolet Silverado with a trailer displaying a Georgia license plate. After running a vehicle registration search on the trailer, it was reported as stolen to Hickory Police. A search of the vehicle yielded various stolen tools, as well as lock-picking equipment. Following a brief investigation, officers detained Shaw.
Shaw was charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Property and Felony Possession of Burglary Tools. Shaw was transported to the Alexander County Law Enforcement Center, where he was placed under a $20,000 secured bond.
After obtaining a search warrant on Thursday, January 13th, Alexander County Deputies conducted a search at Shaw’s home and at a storage unit that he rented. More than $60,000 in stolen property was found. Additional charges have been added in Alexander County and charges are also pending in Catawba County.
Shaw remains in the Alexander County Detention Center. His bond is still listed at $20,000 but that figure is expected to be increased to reflect the latest charges.
Sheriff Bowman says Taylorsville Police, Hickory Police and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office are all involved in the investigation.
