Today, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office charged 32-year old Michael Justin Childers with one count of Felony Secret Peeping, one count of Felony Possession of Secret Peeping Material, and one count of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Minor. The charges are part of an investigation that began in December 2020 at Wittenburg Elementary School. A video camera was found in a staff restroom.
The charges filed today are of a female student while inside a classroom with other students at a school function at Ellendale Elementary School in Alexander County. The video is dated September, 2017. These charges are over three-years prior to the alleged incident at Wittenburg Elementary.
Sheriff Chris Bowman said this afternoon that there is “no known evidence of any physical or sexual contact.” Childers was not yet an employee of the Alexander County Schools system when the alleged incident occurred in 2017 at Ellendale.
The Sheriff’s Office has notified school administration and the parent of the victim. Alexander County Schools is fully cooperating with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office in this ongoing investigation, Bowman said.
An additional $30,000 was added to the suspects secured bond bringing the total to $1.38 million. The investigation is ongoing with additional charges possible according to Sheriff Bowman.
The next court date for Childers is Monday, March 15th.
