Maiden Man Charged With Attempted Murder

June 21, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Michael Steven Ricker

36-year-old Michael Steven Ricker of Ginger Lane in Maiden was arrested Tuesday by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

On Tuesday at approximately 6:00 p.m., deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Tallent Court in Sherrills Ford. When deputies arrived they discovered an adult male at the residence who was suffering from gunshot wounds. That victim has been transported to an area hospital where he was last reported to be in serious condition.

The suspect in this incident was identified as Michael Steven Ricker. Ricker was found at his residence on Ginger Lane in Lincoln County and was taken into custody by Lincoln and Catawba County deputies. The motive for this incident appears to be domestic related.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Ricker has a conviction record dating back to 2004. He’s been convicted of various crimes in Lincoln, Catawba, and Burke Counties including multiple felony drug offenses along with misdemeanor counts of larceny and assault on a female. His most recent conviction was in 2014.

Ricker was incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $55,000 bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (June 21). A District Court appearance is scheduled for next Monday (June 26). The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office thanked Lincoln County deputies for their assistance during this investigation.
