Man Dies After Accident In Wilkes County

May 17, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Wilkesboro – On Friday, May 12, at approximately 12:50 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on Moravian Falls Road near Cain Ridge Road. A 2004 Nissan Maxima was traveling south on Moravian Falls Road, drove off the right side of the road, drove back onto the roadway, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, overturned, and came to rest on the passenger side.

The driver of the Maxima, Obed Ulises Garcia, 31, of Moravian Falls, was critically injured and transported by EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 15.

The driver of the Maxima was restrained by a seatbelt but was ejected from the vehicle. During the on-scene investigation, Moravian Falls Road was closed in the area for an hour. The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision.
