Maiden Toddler Struck And Killed Saturday Night

Maiden – On Saturday, February 17, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Buffalo Shoals Road at Abernathy Williams Road. A 2001 Saturn passenger car was traveling south on Buffalo Shoals Road and struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway.

The pedestrian, a two-year-old child, was critically injured and transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately one hour. No charges will be filed in this case against the driver.
