The Alexander Central Cougars hosted the Spartans of South Caldwell High School on Thursday, December 3rd.

The Varsity Cougars came away with a big win in three sets, playing their most consistent match yet. The scores for the match were 25-18, 25-13, 25-13. The Cougars were aggressive along the serving line as well as the net, notching 9 total aces and 28 total kills. The offensive efforts were led by Brianna Abernathy (9 kills, 1 block, 1 ace) with Dakota Clawson (5 kills, 2 blocks), Gracie Harrington (4 kills, 1 block, 1 ace), and Ashlyn Merritt (4 kills) also contributing to the cause. Setters, Bryanna Payne (11 assists, 2 aces), Emily Brown (10 assists), and Madalyn Motley (7 assists), combined for 28 of the 30 recorded assists. From a defensive perspective, the Cougars totaled 59 digs in the three-set match. Kara Gryder (9 digs), Bryanna Payne (8 digs), and Layna West (8 digs) led the team’s efforts in the backrow.
The Cougars will be hosting Freedom High School on Monday, December 7th. The JV match will begin at 4:30pm with the Varsity to follow around 6pm. Before the start of the Varsity match, the volleyball program will be recognizing their eight seniors from the class of 2021.
