Iredell County Man Pleads Guilty To Second-Degree Murder

A man received a minimum prison sentence of approximately 25 years in connection to a 2019 murder. 27-year-old Pierson Worth Colbert of the Iredell County community of Union Grove entered a guilty plea in the case involving the death of 44-year-old Robert John Quinn, also of Union Grove. That plea was entered Tuesday (December 5) in Iredell County Superior Court.

Colbert pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by felon, felony larceny of motor vehicle and assault on a government official. He was sentenced to multiple terms. The sentences are 276-344 months, followed by terms of 14-26 months, 8-19 months, and 150 days. Colbert also received a sentence of 6-17 months in prison at the expiration of those terms for a probation violation.

Colbert was arrested on November 18, 2019, in connection with the death of Robert John Quinn who suffered a fatal head injury during an altercation earlier that morning. Quinn died from his injuries shortly after first responders arrived at an address on Indian Hill Road in Union Grove. They arrived at the scene at approximately 5 a.m. on that date.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office investigated Quinn’s death and arrested Colbert the same day. Quinn was a native of North Kingston, Rhode Island. Colbert remained in the Iredell County Detention Center as of earlier today
