Iredell County Man Facing 18 Counts Of Statutory Rape

72-year old Edwin Lee Jones of Mooresville was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputies on January 12th. He’s charged with 18 counts of first-degree statutory rape and three counts of felony indecent liberties with a child.

A report was filed by a female juvenile with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office on December 30th. The report stated a family member had sexually assaulted her.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit was assigned the case. During the investigation, a detective learned about two additional victims. These individuals were located and interviewed. They both described having been sexually assaulted on multiple occasions by the suspect.

Based on the three victim’s statements, additional information, and evidence obtained during the investigation, 21 arrest warrants were obtained for Edwin Lee Jones. On January 12, Jones was arrested by members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was jailed under $5,300,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance is scheduled for February 2. The investigation is still an ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
