At about 9:30 last night (January 24), the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to an accident on I-77 North, near Tomlin Mill Road in Iredell County. The accident occurred as a northbound 2007 Nissan Maxima was traveling behind an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office patrol car on I-77. The driver of the Nissan lost control at a high rate of speed, ran off the road to the right, traveled back into the travel lanes, and collided with the patrol car’s passenger side.
The driver of the Nissan, 33-year-old Charles Adam Stanley of Harmony, sustained minor injuries. He was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane control. According to the Highway Patrol, drug impairment is suspected as a contributing circumstance. The results of a blood test are pending.
Iredell County Deputy Philip Henshaw, who was driving the patrol car, was injured and transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. The Deputy’s injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. He has been released from the hospital.
