Lenoir Man Killed In Wilkes County Crash

December 1, 2022 By Richard C. Gilbert

WILKESBORO – On Tuesday, November 29, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on NC 268 near Boomer Road.  A 2014 Toyota Scion was traveling east on NC 268, failed to adequately reduce speed, and collided with a 2014 Qlink moped which was also traveling east on NC 268.

The driver of the Scion, Ronnie Allen Honeycutt, 38, of Hudson, was not injured.  The driver of the moped, Charlie Monroe Pike, 31, of Lenoir, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

NC 268 was closed in the area for approximately 2 hours during the on-scene investigation.  Alcohol impairment is suspected to be a contributing circumstance in the collision.  Honeycutt was arrested and charged with driving while impaired.  Additional charges are pending the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office.
