Newton- On Thursday, June 18th, at approximately 11:31 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on N.C. 16 at Buffalo Shoals Road, in Catawba County. A 2026 Hyundai Tucson was traveling North on N.C. 16 and ran a solid red traffic light at the intersection of Buffalo Shoals Road. The Hyundai then collided with a 2004 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Hyundai, Sheck Kamara, 22, of Charlotte, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.
The front seat passenger of the Hyundai, Elijah Taylor, 26, of Gastonia, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center by EMS, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford, Noah Hocking, 19, of Claremont, was transported to CMC Lincoln by EMS, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The initial investigation does not indicate speed or impairment to be contributing factors in the collision.
There will be no charges in this case.
