Hickory Police Investigating Sunday Shooting

Hickory Police are investigating a Sunday shooting that left a woman critically injured.

Just before 6 p.m. Sunday, Hickory Police responded to the 800 block of 1st Street S.E. following a 9-1-1 call reporting that a female had been shot. Upon arrival, Officers found 26-year-old Daquesha Walton in an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to her neck. Catawba County E.M.S. responded and transported Walton to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. At last report, she was listed in critical condition.

During the initial investigation, witnesses said a young black male with a handgun fired several rounds at subjects standing behind the apartment, striking Ms. Walton. The shooter fled the area on foot and has not been located.

No additional suspect information has been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident should call Hickory Police at 828-328-5551.
