Hickory Man Charged With Animal Cruelty

The Long View Police Department has filed felony an animal cruelty charge against a Hickory man.

58-year-old Michael Allen Lewis was arrested on Wednesday and charged with felony cruelty to animals. According to arrest documentation the suspect maliciously tortured a German Shepherd by keeping it on a chain so tightly that the dog’s flesh had severe infection causing the smell of rotting flesh. The animal was deprived of food and water according to the charges.

Lewis remains in custody as of this report and was scheduled to appear in Catawba County District Court.
