Helene Recovery Continues In Wilson Creek

April 24, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Recovery efforts are actively taking place on Wilson Creek. To ensure public safety, give crews room to work, and allow residents to pass safely, people are asked to avoid travel along Brown Mountain Beach Road.

The road is open; however, the NC Department of Transportation is making critical road repairs, and delays are expected.

To aid with recovery efforts, the US Forest Service has closed the Wilson Creek Day Use Area and Harper Creek Falls. The closure means no parking, no stair access, no swimming, and no fishing in the area from the end of the pavement on Brown Mountain Beach Road to Craig Creek Road.

The Wilson Creek Day Use Area will remain closed until September 1, 2025, or until it is deemed safe to reopen. For a full list of trails and recreation sites open visit www.g5trailcollective.org/helene.
