North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced the unveiling of a “County Alert System” on Tuesday as COVID-19 cases continue to increase across the state.
The governor announced during a press briefing that the state will introduce a color-coded map to show how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting each county statewide by measuring rate of new cases and hospitalizations.
Red indicates Critical Community Spread
Orange denotes Substantial Community Spread
Yellow Shows Significant Community Spread
Alexander County is classified as “Red”. Cases have been on a rapid rise over the course of the last several weeks. The last update by the Alexander County Health Department was Friday, November 13th. At that time, 124 Alexander County citizens were in quarantine, 27 were hospitalized, and the county had confirmed 13 COVID-19 associated deaths.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,217 total cases reported in Alexander County, of which 1,053 people have recovered.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is reporting that Alexander County has seen their number of COVID-19 cases increase by 875 in the last two weeks.
