Former Hickory Police Officer Gets Three Years For 2013 Assault

An ex-Hickory Police Officer convicted of throwing a woman to the pavement is headed to federal prison.

49-year old Robert George was sentenced to three years in prison in Charlotte Federal Court on Thursday. George was convicted in 2019 of using unreasonable force after an incident dating back to 2013. Officer George assaulted 24-year old Chelsea Doolittle. She was pulled by George from the backseat of Hickory Police Department vehicle. She suffered multiple injuries. The incident was captured on video. The assault also led to a civil lawsuit against the city of Hickory that was settled for $400,000.

George had faced a federal judge for sentencing in October , 2019. The Judge at that time sentenced George to four years of probation and ordered him to pay $20,000 in restitution. The probation period was cut short when a judge ordered termination of sentence.
