Fire Destroys Home Sunday Morning In Stony Point

September 6, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

On Sunday,September 6th at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Alexander County 911 Center received a call reporting a house fire at 139 Douglas Court in the Stony Point Community.

Stony Point, Hiddenite, and Taylorsville fire departments were initially dispatched to the incident. The first engine arrived within approximately one to two minutes and reported a working fire involving a fully involved doublewide mobile home.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered fire throughout the entire length of the structure. Multiple hose lines were deployed as crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire. It appears the fire had been burning for a short period of time before it was discovered by an individual who noticed a column of smoke and went to investigate.

The home was located off the roadway and was difficult to see from the main road, which may have contributed to the fire going undetected for a period of time. Firefighters worked extensively to extinguish the blaze; however, the home was a total loss. Mutual aid was requested from Iredell County to provide additional manpower to assist with extinguishment operations. No one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The American Red Cross has been contacted and is assisting the affected family. Neighbors reported that a severe thunderstorm, including significant lightning activity, was occurring shortly before the fire was discovered. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office.

A single mother and three children resided at the location
