Fatal Fire Monday Morning In Morganton

A man died in a structure fire early early Monday morning in Morganton.

Shortly after midnight, Burke County Emergency Communications dispatched fire departments to a reported occupied structure fire on Port Street in Morganton. Firefighters found a brick structure with heavy smoke visible. It was learned that one person was inside the home.

Firefighters made entry and removed the victim from the dwelling. Paramedics on the scene were unsuccessful in resuscitation efforts. 43-year-old Bon Alexander Stroupe was pronounced deceased.

Firefighters from four Burke County fire departments responded. Burke County EMS also responded.

The Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire in conjunction with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
