Fatal Crash This Morning In Catawba County

At about 1:35 this morning (April 18), the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision in Catawba County on Buffalo Shoals Road, near Little Mountain Road. The deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Danny Charles Lail of Catawba.

The accident occurred when a southbound 2001 Mack logging truck traveling on Buffalo Shoals Road ran off the roadway and collided with several vehicles in the parking lot at D&R Automotive & Front-End Service. The truck overturned and lost its load of logs.

Mr. Lail, who was driving the truck, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was not restrained by a seatbelt. There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the accident.

Buffalo Shoals Road was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.
