Fatal Crash In Catawba County Hit And Run…Updated

A Catawba County man was killed in a crash Wednesday evening and a suspect has been charged.

65-year-old Timothy Jay Roberts has been charged with felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, and driving while impaired. 26-year-old Troy Michael Faust of Conover was killed in the collision.

Wednesday, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to NC 16 at Mount Olive Church Road in Newton. A 2004 Ford pickup truck was traveling south on NC 16, attempted to turn left onto Mount Olive Church Road, failed to yield the right of way, and collided with a northbound 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle. The truck immediately fled the scene.

The motorcycle was being driven by Troy Faust, who died at the scene. The Ford was being driven by Roberts, who was found with the vehicle at a residence several miles from the scene. The results of a blood test were pending. Bond for Roberts was set at $5,000. He is not currently listed as an inmate. No court date was listed.
