September 7, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Crouse- On Wednesday, September 06, at approximately 4:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Lincoln County on Shoal Road near Hayworth Lane. A 2017 Kia Soul was traveling west on Shoal Road, crossed the centerline, and sideswiped an eastbound 2008 GMC Canyon.

The driver of the Soul, Gary Samuel Kiser, 55, of Crouse, was transported by EMS to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Canyon, David Rivera Torres, 77, of Vale, and a passenger were transported by EMS to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Shoal Road was closed in the area during the on-scene investigation for one hour. The initial investigation indicates a medical condition contributing to the collision. All occupants were restrained by a seatbelt and no charges will be filed in this case.
