Alexander Central 3
Marvin Ridge 41
The Marvin Ridge Mavericks handed Alexander Central their 3rd straight loss Friday night in a game played in Waxhaw.
Despite being without their starting quarterback, Marvin Ridge’s backup qb, sophomore Bennett Holder passed for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Mavericks out gained the injury depleted Cougars 357 to 219.
Alexander Central continued to play with a thin roster that forced many Cougars to go both offense and defense. It was obvious the Blue and Gold were used in the second half.
AC reached the red zone three times but went without a touchdown. Corey Lawson’s 32 yard field goal with 5:56 remaining in the fourth quarter was the only points for the Blue and Gold.
Robert Young led the Cougars on the ground with 83 yards, most of it late in the 4th quarter when the outcome was long decided. ACHS was flagged for 13 penalties.
The Cougars end a tough non conference slate at 2-3 and will be idle next Friday before traveling to West Jefferson on September 30th against Ashe County.
