Taylorsville: It started well but it ended bad for Alexander Central Friday night.
The host Cougars jumped to a 14-0 lead on touchdown runs of two yards by QB Tanner Moore and an 81-yard dash by HB Braydon Rowe. There was two much time left and almost no offense left for ACHS.
North Iredell got a 4-yard touchdown run by QB Kaleb Sales, the conversion failed and North trailed 14-6 with 5:57 left in the second quarter.
A 25-yard field goal from Carson Davis pushed the Alexander Central lead to 17-6 with 26 seconds remaining in the half
The Raiders scored as time expired in the half. A desperation 44-yard toss from Sales to Pete Jackson and the visitors from Olin were within 17-13 at the half. The momentum was all on the side of the visitors.
The third and fourth quarters belonged to North Iredell.
They blocked a punt for a safety with 8:28 remaining in the final period to pull within 17-15 and scored the winning touchdown on a Kaleb Parks 3-yard run with 4:33 left in the game.
Alexander Central managed just 36 yards and one first down in the second half.
Kaleb Soles gained 121 yards rushing and went 17-23 through the air for another 178 yards. Ian Smith led the Raider defense with 12 tackles. Braydon Rowe paced the Cougar rushing attack with 133 yards (81 on the td run). Tanner Moore managed 41 yards passing, going 4 of 12.
Nate Dashlstrom collected 10 tackles for AC.
North out gained the Blue and Gold 280-236.
The Cougars drop to 2-1 and will host Burns on Friday, September 8th. North Iredell is now 1-2 and will have next Friday off before hosting Fred T Foard on September 15th.
